I have been in a bad slump when it comes to scrap booking and have just not been in the mood to create anything with paper for awhile. I did sit down and create a layout this morning of our daughter. She is one of the three major Joys in my life. Motherhood is such a blessing.
I taught a Fall card class at the church and had a great group of ladies. They were all beginner's and wanted the cards to be simple, that was hard for me I wanted to layer and do lots of fluff and texture.
Here is a look at the five cards I taught:
I do have four kits leftover if anyone is interested, I will ship them out to you just e-mail me. The cost is $12 with shipping.
Oh how I have been enjoying this fall like weather we have been having here in Texas. I have also enjoyed spending the last couple of days with Tracy, having crafty days at her house has been fun.
Here is a peek at my latest home decor projects.
Remember this from my last post:
Well here is what I have done with it.
I really love the way it turned out. I have it on the center of our dinning room table and it looks great.
I also asked Tracy to show me how to make an arrangement on top of a pumpkin. She made one a few years back and I have always loved it and wanted one for my house. This was the first project of the week and I am so happy with it.
We stayed at a very cute and cozy bed and breakfast in Fayetteville Tx. called the Honeysuckle Gallery. The Innkeepers Jerry and Jeanette were so nice and very hospitable. Jeanette made us a wonderful breakfast both mornings. We really had a great stay with them.
I had a few things in mind that I was looking for and I found just about all of them and more. I like the more rusty, crusty, chippy vintage look. That is how I like my heavy metal. The junky look as my mom would say.
I was looking for old window frames to hang an arrangement on.
I found these for a bargain $15.00 for the pair. I love the metal on the one an the color and the six panes on the other.
Next I was after a container for an arrangement for my kitchen table. I wanted something that was light weight and something that I could easily exchange the arrangement for each season. I wanted it rectangle in shape.
This is what I found, it is a wire basket that was used in a chest freezer. I like the handles on it, I will be able to tie ribbons and different things from it.
Now the hunt was on for and old iron bed frame for my sons room. He is away at college and has taken all of his furniture, so I am making a guest bed room out of his room. I want to decorate it with antiques, not the refinished kind but the junky kind. His room is kind of small so I was after a twin size frame. We looked everywhere and found lots of full size not very many twins and if we found a twin it would be twice the price of a full. The last day turned up the jewell of a deal I noticed at the back of this booth was a bed frame and the price tag was hanging but was bent right behind the second number on it, all I could see was $20 thinking it was $200.00 but thought I would check it out just curious. Well sure enough their was nothing else on the paper so I found my iron bed for a heck of a deal. It is however a full but for that price I can make it work.
I was also looking for a couple of the old lanterns the metal type with the oil and wick. I have seen them on Pinterest all in a group hung over an outside table and wanted to do the same for my back patio I did find one with the most awesome patina. So I am still on the look out for some more.
The next find I really got for sentimental reasons. I really wasn't looking for it but it found me. I noticed these chairs all over the place and would glance over at them and would remember my Grandparents sitting in chairs just like these at our family reunions. We would drive up and their Grandma and Grandpa would be just rocking away waiting on the family to arrive. I found this one in the same booth that I found my bed frame and again a heck of a deal $15.00. What a bargain.
I picked up a few smaller items a wooden spool with copper wire on it just thought it was cute, I was also looking from a handle from a little red wagon I want to use it to hang a arrangement on my back patio I couldn't find one but I found this old weed wacker thing that will work just fine. (when I make this I will share it. It is a cute idea but hard to describe so stay tuned for that).
I had such a great time and can't wait to go back.
Here is a layout I did of my niece, in this picture she is a new born and it is so hard to believe she is a year old already. Walking, talking and just a joy to be around. The title of the layout is when we love we grow, I found it in my rub on stash and instantly thought of doing a layout for her. Enjoy!
I can't believe it has been a week since I have posted.
I worked on a layout last night. I am trying to get back into to scraping, since the store has closed I have been in a funk and it is time to get out of the funk. Here I have created a layout using some older paper lines from my stash.
I painted the word happy onto a small piece of canvas. I painted the back ground with faded jean crackle paint first, then I traced the letters and just painted inside the lines.
The bird is a die cut, I covered it with Tim Holtz tape, then glittered and sealed it with embossing powder. I placed a pearl blink on the eye to give it character.
Add some ribbon, a photo and a few flowers and there you have it a completed page.
So I created a couple of tags. I am happy with the way they turned out. I will create layouts for these in the future, and will share them. I need to be doing house work but, I had an idea for the bird tag and had to create it before I lost it.
Seems like summer just flew bye and now they are headed back to school. Seems so hard to believe that Chelsea could be a Junior and Brendan a freshmen in high school where did my little kids go? I am so proud of these two they are amazing. They have come along way, they used to fight like crazy and now they are the best of friends. Pure Joy!!
My name is Dusty McRae. I am a mother to three amazing kids. My wonderful husband Marcus and I have been together for twenty one years. Our kids keep us busy, they are very active in sports. They are my motivation I love to preserve our memories in hopes that one day they will enjoy looking back on them. I also have a love for teaching others, I find great joy in watching them create new things whether it be a layout, tag or a paper craft project, seeing them smile and get excited about a project in which they created makes me giddy inside. I have been scrap booking for about ten years now and just fell over the deep end with it.
